MPC 1000 ( Help)

what up im 15 and want to get into producing early so when im out of high school i will be comfortable wit making beats and just producing music in general. I've been just saving money because i want to buy some production gear but im not really sure what to buy , i've been working wit fruity loops for about 1 month or so and i just dont like tha way my beats turn out they sound to computer generated to me, so i was tihnking of getting a mpc and since i dont have that much money to spend i was thinking of gettin tha cheapest one the mpc 1000 but i really dont know anything about producing. i've just been rapping and selling my mixtapes around to get money but i've just really feel in love wit really creating beatz but i have no idea how to do anything all i know is a MPC is tha center piece for producing Hip Hop beatz and thatz wha i want to do. Can someone tell me what i should start with or what i should buy if i want to start producing and what do i have to know. thank you

I havent been producing that long but I was on the same page as you. I was using Fruity loops and got sick of the sounds that I was using. I went and got an MPC1000 and Ive been very happy with it. One thing you should know is an MPC doesnt come stocked full of sounds.... You have to search around and gather up your own sounds and load tthem in your MPC yourself...so keep that in mind.

Other than an Mpc you are gonna need a good keyboard. Im sure a lot of people on this board will tell you to go to your local music store and try out different keyboards to get a feel of the sounds...that goes for any peice of equipment you buy. I have a Korg Triton. Im happy with it but I wish I would have tried out other keyboards because for all I know Im missing out on wayyyyyyy better keyboards with better sounds.

The list goes on for other equipment you could use but in my oppinion judging upon how young you are, Im assuming you dont have a huge buget to work with... so an Mpc and a nice keyboard will start you off pretty good and will be good start for your future in producing.

I just want to start this by saying I appreciate the fact that you recognize the value of an mpc to want to purchase one.

Next. I've been doing this producing thing for a very long time and I've used FL also, along with everything else that I have including an MPC. I just want to let you know that you are not stuck with the sounds that come with FL. Like someone above me said you do have to search for sounds for the MPC. the 1000 does come with some sounds. but whatever sounds you find for the mpc you can also use in FL. and with that fact you don't necessarily have to spend alot of money to get the mpc feel of beat making (banging on pads). you can get the Akai MPD16 for only $250 to connect to your computer to use with fruity loops. here: http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i-AKA-MPD16.html

Read up on the hip hop producer 9th Wonder. all he uses is FL.


I'm not trying to talk you out of looking to buy a true mpc but like you said, you are only 15 and money is of an issue with you. But also like someone said you will need some kind of keyboard and a good sound card.
