Really Need Help With Midi

I have searched the forum and I have even watched both of Classic's videos, but I still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong when it comes to Midi.

Here's the problem I'm having; I have a MPC2000xl, a Dell Inspiron 9200 (2.8 htz and 516 mb of ram), Steinberg USB MI4 Audio/Midi Interface,
M-Audio Oz Midi Controller, I have Cubase SL and Various Soft Synths such as FM7 and Absyth. Now, I create a drum pattern on my MPC with various sample I have laying around. I then play a few chords on my midi controller using FM7 When I play it back on my MPC, the midi lags or skips a note or completely does not sound.

Is there something I'm doing wrong or did I just waste my money buying these Soft Synths.

Where did you record the midi chords ? on the cubase or on the MPc ?
Do you do some syncing between the cubase and the MPC ?

I recorded the chords on the MPC. As far as syncing I don't know how to do it. I've read both the mpc manual and the cubase manual and does not make any sense. could you help me please.
