Why Should I Get An MPC?

Don't get me wrong, I've used and MPC before, and I loved playin with it. It helped me make some real nice drums. I'm on the verge of buying the MPC1000, but I don't want to waste the money if its uneccessary, ya know?

I've been working with computer-based sequencers since I started producing. I went from Fruity Loops to Reason to Pro Tools to Ableton Live and I'm still with Live at this point. I just use Pro Tools to mix now...the MIDI sucks in PT!

So Ableton Live has a drum program called Impulse and it works fine. I know the MPC works 10x better, but is it worth spending $1000?

I also use alot of VST's. Can I easily use VST's with the MPC1000?

I'd like to do most of my work primarily with the MPC, then import the session into Pro Tools for a final mix. (I use and MBox...so I need a MIDI interface, right?)

I don't know, convince me that I'm making the right decision by adding a MPC to my setup. Give me a couple good reasons why I need an MPC.


Oh, and for your information, this is the setup I'd like to have:

MPC1000 - drums and sampling

? - if neccessary, a computer based sequence in conjuction...any recommendations? Live seems alright. I can't use Logic...I have a PC.

Pro Tools - mixing

any other must haves??

Why should we have to convience u??? If ur workin with software and ur happy then why rock the boat. Only u can judge if u need something or not. If u have already worked with the MPC then u should know the answer to ur question

I'm not happy with the software though...thats why I'm lookin for a change.

I'm looking for pros and cons. Has anyone here switched from the software route to a mix of software and hardware?

And I'm really interested in the use of the MPC with Pro Tools.

it'll be hard going from software to hardware.

some say u need years to learn the mpc. tru, wen it comes to all the complex stuff. but it takes a day to learn the controls and use the martix grid. and compared to software the matrix on the mpc is not at all stable.

I went from software to hardware and I have never looked back, I even gave software a chance for DAW, but ended up going back to hardware. I used reason and I liked all of its features, but I hated the fact that you had to record in 1 program, eq and chop in recycle, then import to reason to use DR. Rex, thats too much when on the MPC you can do all in 1 machine once you add a DAW. I recorded and chopped on the MP and I can eq and sculpt the sound with my AW16G. I haven't looked back since. Sure you have the big screen and everything, but I have much more fun on a MP then a CPU. Since then I have upgraded to a 4k and I have a majority of the features that I had in reason all in 1 box which is a big plus for me. But each person will like something different. I'm all hardware, but some people are combiations of both or others are stright software, you will have to find out what fits your workflow.
