Hi, I was thinking about purchasing the MPC 2000 XL and then became puzzled by the fact that on zzounds.com's website, there are two versions:
"MPC 2000 XL MCD production system and sampler" and "MPC 2000 XL Sampling Drum Machine with built-in 100 mb zip drive"... my question is this, the one with the zip drive is priced $300 less than the other, what am I missing here? are the extra features worth the xtra $300? here is the link:http://www.zzounds.com/prodsearch?form=prodsearch&q=mpc

also, any recommendations on where to purchase?

Thanks,
Jon

All features are exactly the same except the storage: the mcd can take cf cards that can contain up to 2Gb of data whereas the zipdrive only takes 100mb. The cf read has no moving parts so it is less prone to wear than the zip drive. You can easily install a card reader yourself in an existing mpc2000xl (but I guess it will void your warranty).

I'm a tell you for those of us that work with electronics for a living, No moving parts makes a hella lot of difference. Thats why I like the 1k. It might seem small, but you want as few moving parts as possible, even zip drives.
