2000XL Help Needed

dont forget to turn your midi sync on in the mpc

Hey. Update. I found a midi cable right.. and I have the protools transport setup for MMC.. midi.. it says waiting for midi.. in red on the bottom left.. I press play on the MPC.. it starts recording, but it isnt actually recording anything.. I am playing the sound, and it is allowing the MPC to control when the recording starts.. but why is no sound being recorded?

it starts recording once i hit play on the machine.. except the wave chart stays at a constant line rather than showing the noises that make up the beat. I don't understand this heh.

Should I have Send MMC: on or off?
Mode: Midi Time Code 30frame rate? or should I use the other options..

Any settings I need to change in protools? ahhhhh thanks in advance

do you have recording armed in Protools?

you mean when i create an audio track.. i have 'record' selected and red? yes i do.. and do i need an audio track.. or a midi track for what im doing?

you know that PT comes with a pdf reference guide that explains in detail how to do what you're trying to do dont you?

Did you configure your inputs correctly in the I/O setup screen?

Did you select the correct inputs on the audio tracks?

You are trying to record audio right?

You're not connecting midi cables and trying to figure out why PT isnt recording audio are you?

You do have 1/4 in cables going from the analog outs of the MPC to the ins on the 001 right?

You're not smokin crack WHILE trying to do all of this are you?

I would figure out getting yer audio signal into protools first...
then worry about syncin the midi shig. cause it sounds like that's your main problem... and you want to make audio tracks to record your beats. I just have the protools mBox, so I can't really tell you how to set up your audio, but once you have the audio cables (not midi, I wouldn't worry about midi if i was you... baby steps... baby steps), make an audio track, make sure the track input is the channel that has the mpc audio plugged into the 001. then hit the record arm button and record/play. you may have to switch the record mode from loop or punch or something like that. Before you press record/play you should see a signal in the track lane of the mixer window. Then you know you've got audio coming into protools, and your audio is all hooked up.
Anyways, protools takes some time to figure out. i had to study it for awhile before I really understood it. There must be a getting started manual pdf on digidesigns site that could give you more detailed steps for hooking that shig up. Or maybe there's simpler software that you can use to record your beats, using the 001 interface. Garage band might work, but you'll probably need the drivers if its possible. Also there's probably a oodles of info on digidesigns site toooooooo.

no prob mang, just remember you just want the red circle on the record button. no p's or l's just a red circle. then press play and record in pt, then rock out boom bap yer beat's should be in there. then you're good. yea, so just get your audio hooked up. you know, it could just be a problem with your digidesign drivers. peace out!
