well a break is like a section of a track where usually just the drums are playing, and they are isolated from the other instruments, although sometimes they can be accompanied by a bassline. You could use it in production for the drum part of a beat, as a matter of fact, this was the method for a very long period of time during the early days of hip hop production.

Where you can you find em? Dig in dem crates man! Or you could find some compilation albums loaded with songs containing famous breaks of the past years. Go to t_u_r_n_t_a_b_l_e_l_a_b_._c_o_m and check there for some breakbeat compilation albums (either ultimate breaks and beats or some others.)

The break is the foundation of hip hop and djing. But even traditional producers constantly use it, so it's nothing foreign.

Just a switch up flow where only one aspect of the track is really playing (most of the time accompanied by bass).

Well, that part is completely up to you as a producer. Although, loop drum loops is VERY frowned upon (especially in this forum), you should just follow your instincts and do what's best for that particular track. Don't let "rules" constrict your production.

Nblazer their is many ways to flip breaks. If you watch that just blaze dvd thats been posted up like 5 times already, thats a perfect way to watch and learn how someone does it. THeir is no oneway to use breaks

For an example, check out my song "Dreamin'" and "Homicidal Thoughts" For "Dreamin", I used a break, but rearranged the break in a way where it's not really recognizable unless I told you what it was. For "Homicidal Thoughts", I just chopped a bass kick and a snare from a break, and processed them so that they have a total different sound from the breaks that were used. For the references just mentioned, check my soundclick in my signature

chop them joints up into individual drum hits and program your drums that way! of course like Nalij said, its up to you...

but the good man Binger told me a while back to chop those drums up and use those hits to program your own. It'll make you feel much better about your creation! so big thanks to him for hippin' me to that.

although i have used drum loops before, so I cant clown anyone for usin them. but dont depend on them
