Sort of. The ram is what all the memory is stored on, INTERNALLY. The SM Card is for storage of your files.
RAM stands for Random Access Memory. Its is only temporary. ie AS soon as you turn that mpc off, all data that was in the ram is gone. This can be sounds (.wav, .snd), programs (.pgm, .aps), sequences, songs, and mixer settings (.ALL). Everything
The SM card is just like a hard drive in your computer. For instance, when you download a file from the internet... If you select "SAVE", the file will be saved to your hard drive - You can turn the computer off and on, it will always be there. But when you select "RUN", the file still downloads, but instead of going directly to the HD, the file is temporarily stored (and accessed) in the computer's RAM. And thus will be lost when you shut down without saving the file.
....Same thing with your MPC
