Do you sample vinyl? Can I get your opinion on...

...whether or not I should bother to try and fix my dad's old Sansui SR-232 Turntable and Sony TC-K7II Stereo Cassette Deck -OR- just go and purchase a whole new turntable, like say a Numark PT-01? All I want a turntable for is sampling vinyl. I won't be scratching or anything, I just want a turntable to spin the wax. What do you think?

If fixing it would be cheaper I'd go that route...if all you want to do is sample from it, than you just need an old record player to work, not a whole brand new one...just my opinion, with the extra dough you can grab some equipment or vinyl...do as you please, peace...

Co-sign Niceweis914. If its cheaper do that. Also you might get better quality sound coming out of the old 'table and amp because the PT-01 is only a portable 'table and so is not going to have that great sound quality...

thanks guys... appreciate the feedback... i never thought about the 'clarity' thing with the pt01... see the thing is, i work mon - fri and due to my work schedule i only have the weekends to get things done... i'm wondering if it's worth the hassle trying to get this thing fixed or just get a new table instead... i don't know what's wrong with the table, so i don't know the cost to have it fixed... perhaps i should just cop a new table, would be more convenient... hmmm....

i don't know what's wrong with the table, i plug it in, flick the switch and the platform doesn't spin... so i'm assuming it's internal... don't know if it's an electrical problem or what... ??

is it a belt drive?

if so it could be worth checking the belt hasn't slipped off

Have you checked the belt? Sometimes they slip off or wear out and they're mostly really easy to replace. However, seems like ur set on the PT-01 which is cool. From what you say it sounds like it will be of use to you, also because it's portable, its great for diggin'! You can always keep the old table and fix it when you've got more time...

that's true! thanks guys, as soon as i get home i'm gonna see if i can figure out if it's the belt... when i first found the table t, i was trying to see if there's a way i could open up the table up myself to take a peek inside... i didn't see any way to get in to the internal hardware, but it did say "do not open - no user replaceable parts" on the back of the table... LOL... it's a very old table, older than i am (i'm 26) so i'm assuming it's belt-driven... thanks a lot for the feedback guys!!

oh, i did do some research on the numark pt01, don't mind that it's belt-driven and i do like the fact that it's portable too... but as a newbie myself, i don't know if this table or model is best for me... but then again, all i want/need it for is sampling so... mmm... aaahh well... guess i just have to continue learning things the way i do, THE HARD WAY!!! lol... thanks again for the help!
