I admit it!....I recently used the Karma to Produce and create a techno piece. It was actually the only sound source except for Drums (MPC4k) , a bit of guitar and vox....

No offense, but Karma, guitar and vox... are you sure it was a 'proper' techno track? Or more like techno in the broad sense? In other words, is it something you could see Dave Clarke, or Frankie Bones, or Richie Hawtin dropping during a DJ set? Also, is Techno your main style- do you listen to it a lot?

otoh that's almost off topic because the orig.poster refered to chem brothers and crystal method, who don't fit my narrow definition either a lot of the time

Beats the heck out of me man...this was a work for hire situation...the client played me two tunes and said "I want something like this" - I couldn't even tell you who made the tracks he let me listen to...anyway, I played - he paid...

as far as the Karma is concerned, I actually hate the thing. The keyboard is a bit cheap and the learning curve is so steep even its developers haven't figured out everything it can do...on the flip side, while it starts with sampled waveforms there are a slew of filters, LFO's, FX's, etc you can throw on the sounds and tweak real-time or with midi including a mad / crazy arpegiator section that takes the notes you play, analyzes the chord and then throws in random notes based on what you have played up to that point. There is complete control over the "randomness" and also over 1500 built in arps. The end results are extremely "Synth oriented" and its undoubtedly the best arpegiator I've ever worked with. Once you get even the basics down it lets you create in an hour what I used to take days assembling. Personally I probably don't know thedifference between Trance, Dance, Rave, Tecno, - they're all "dance club" music to me...

cool man, fair enough thnx for the answer. yeah that Karma sounds interesting, i don't think me and it would get along too well though... for some reason i don't like my synth playing notes for me, that's the part i would rather program by hand. i tend to be more drawn to boards that do crazyness in terms of timbre..
