How can I check under the hood?

I've been making music with a MPC 60 for many years now. Today my 4000 came, used, from Ebay. No problem loading up the previous owner's sample collections and making loops but...the load up time seems really slow, slower then the 60. Of course I was anticipating some high speed action. Am I overlooking the obvious in my dreams of a sampler ferrari? Is it just because I am loading so many more samples off a CD (compared to diskettes) and because they are obviously bigger files as well? Not really complicated but I statred getting paranoid thinking there really isn't anyway to know if it is working like it should. Any other things to look for after recieving a used machine?
