Ok, so I know how to read a book but I still don't get it. I need "layman's" terms, man! I know "how" to only hook up the cords into the correct ins/outs from my MicroKorg and MPC2kXL. Check. The next thing I would like to do is have my MPC record the MIDI notes I play on the MicroKorg. As I understand it, ALL the recording is done in SEQUENCE mode on the MPC. This is where I get stuck ~ what are the settings in MIDI mode supposed to be??? If you know how the MIDI info is transferred then you could probably answer this question. Once I do get he settings figured out, then am I supposed to just go to SEQUENCE mode and hit record or is there something that I'm supposed to do with the track I want to record it on??? I notice that I can "pick" something like 1A device/MIDI in the TRACK options. Does this have something to do with what I want to do? PLEASE SOMEONE ~ HELP!!! I'm tearing my eyes out trying to figure it out!

Set your MPC's DRUM (bottom left on the MAIN screen) to MIDI 1A (as long as your Micro is connected to the "A" input, if its connected to the "B" socket, set it to MIDI 1B)

Hit record (well, record + play, technically) on your MPC.

Play the Korg.

Press stop on the MPC.

Press PLAY START on your MPC, and the Korg will play whatever you just played on it. Keep in mind, the sound will still play from the Korg, not the MPC, so if the volume is off on the Korg, you wont hear it. Also, if the MIDI out on the MPC isn't connected to the MIDI in on the Korg, it won't play.

When using MIDI, the MPC records the trigger info (pad #, duration, attack, etc) from the MIDI device. Then when you play it back, the MPC resends that info to the device, and the device plays the appropriate key for the right time, etc. So you need 2 MIDI cables for each device if you want to trigger sounds from the same device you play the composition on.

Hope this helps
