help choosing a mixer...?

i use a 4 channel (8 input) dj mixer/preamp. the mixer has 3 outputs--amp, rec & booth. i use the amp out for my moniters, the record output to record to my computer and the booth output to sample into the mpc.

basically i need a mixer with at least 3 outputs.

what the hell is a bus? is that an output?

a bus is basically an output, but thats not the whole story...

a bus is a signal path where you can create a mix from the various channels. Every mixer has at least one bus (usually a stereo bus) because that's what you are using to mix.

If you have more than one bus, that means you can create 2 or more _different_ mixes from your source signal, and send the mixes out seperately.

For instance you can create one mix for recording and another one for monitoring.

Most mixers even indicate the number of main busses in their model number::
ie. the yamaha mg10/2 has 10 channels, 2 busses, and the 16/4 has 16 channels, 4 busses.
If you Google photos of those yamahas you can see the extra 'group' faders on the 16/4 for the second 'group' bus.

Notice that because the busses are stereo, one stereo bus actually counts as '2' busses.

Aux sends are also basically busses, so are cue channels- but those aren't usually indicated in the model number.
