Track Composition.

Peace my dudes! I'm new here & i've come in search of help..lol. I just copped an MPC2000xl like 3 weeks ago. As soon as i got home I brought that mpc2000xl tutorial book(a must for all new heads). I've been studying the book & just finished going through it this week...so basically i prolly got all the basics down. Now heres my question:
I've been trying to create my 1st...so check it, i've been recording like 10-30second loops from my cd player & ipod, then copping them up like into 4-6 pieces & then i try to lay a created drum kit over them.
I've been getting real frustrated because most of my attempts haven't worked! Ive tryed the time stretching but their still a little off.
So whats the correct steps towards composing on the MPC?...Should i chop the samples in smaller pieces? Should i create a drum kit 1st & then lay the samples over them? Whats some of the track composition steps that some of the advance/expert members use here... to create beats?

now this is just my opinion,

but if you just sample a 2bar loop, no chopping,

and trigger on beat '1' once every two bars,

it def _should_ be possible to get that sh** to loop well... just by adjusting the tempo in .1 increments until it sounds ok.

after that, play in some drums with no quantization over top... you should be able to make it all fit together.

is that process working for you?
cause if it isn't, just practise more, and make sure you are trimming exactly 2 bars worth (right from 1 downbeat to the beginning of the downbeat of the 3rd bar)

if thats not your problem sorry if i misunderstood.

ps. maybe 10 seconds is too long for a loop... 30 seconds sounds way too long.

you could do it either way, but i was just trying to outline a method that would be ez to get working right so u get the hang of it.
