EQ

Im trying the pre set mixing board process, where I have the board ready set up with the eq set up before HD recording. I have read in a book that kick dr fundamentals are 30-147 hz snare 100-200 cymbals 300-587. Thats great that gives me something to work with, problem is my desk is rather confusing, not sure how to achieve this, let me explain the eq section to you.from the bottom working up we have a lo cut 75hz a lo dial which says -15 far left 0 middle + 15 far right and under the word lo it says 80hz
then we have two together one says fre one says mid (freq far left 100 1/4 up says 25 1/2 ways says 800 3/4 way says k7 hard right says 8k) MID says (far left -15 middle 0 far right + 15) and finally Hi says 12khz by the side of it and the dial reads far left -15 middle 0 far right +15

I was hoping to for the individual instrments start at the bottom and worh through the freq, but I do not know where to start, the mix board I have is a Behringer MX3282

Many engineers (Myself included) track with EQ's as flat as possible and add EQ when Mixing. A kick or bass that stands alone will need different EQ than one that is riding with other elements of a mix. Perhaps you have a keyboard that contributes to the bottom. You will need to compensate by rolling some of the bass frequencies off in other areas of the mix. I try to bring up a mix that sounds as good as possible with no EQ, then I'll add or subtract only as nrcessary....there really is no preset EQ for anything as individual mixes, genres, and instruments all require different treatment. Let your ears be the judge. Listen to similar material and see how the engineer handled it. Experiment wildly in every direction. Do A/B comparisons. Listen on as many different speakers/systems as you can. Stop listening to music as a whole in your daily life and start hearing the different components of a mix instead. You'll be up to speed in no time and your "ear" will improve quickly...

basically with the eq knobs, the ones marked hi, mid or lo are the gain knobs for the frequency that that part of the eq is set to. you say the lo knob is on it's own, and is marked 80Hz. that means the lo knob will boost or cut frequencies at 80Hz. the mid part has two knobs. one is for boosting/cutting and the other is to select at which frequency the boosting/cutting takes place. check out the manual, or if you don't hve one, then go to the behringer website, there you can download manuals.
