why does it play back at a different volume

program the bass drum, then add the snare when it goes round onto overdub mode, all nice so far. then i STOP and hold down overdub and hit the pad assigned to the Hat put it to 1/8 timing and hit the pads until the end of the loop, play it back and the kick and snare are lower in volume when the hat plays. why is this?

I am using the MPC at the moment as a midi controler and the sound source is a akai s950 btw.

Have you changed the velocity setting in the track parameter?

If you have lowered the velocity setting, then no matter how loud the sound plays when you play the pads, once they are recorded they will follow the velocity setting of that track.

I have not changed anything, apart from now using the MPC to trigger an external sound. the BD plays softer if the hat plays on the same beat. louder if not.

I presume the bass drum and hats are on the same track? Even so this should still not happen. Have you tried seperating the bass drum and hats on speperate tracks? I know you shouldn't have to do this but it is a work around.

sorry but I gave up! I simply x-fered the samples to the MPC and its all good now,. I am using the s950 for that 12 bit wholeness! (sounds like a milky bar advert) and the mpc for drum programmin, was thinkin of using the s950 for some quirky samples of strings and stuff.
dont know why it was all at different volumes I mucked about with the velocity settings on the btm rht of the screen but it dont like it so the MPC is gonna be the daddy. just wanna get the 8 outputs card for it and its all good. has a internal zip so not bad.
