HOw many midi cables are needed? Speaker question also?

HOw many midi cables do i need if i want to connect my akai and my keyboard together, and my akai + keyboard to my recorder? Just one right? Also what are the names of the cables you need to hook up your akai to your studio speakers, are they 1/4" guitar cables or som.
