Recording Keys/Sounds From Keyboard To MPC...

I have the MIDI In of the keyboard going to the MIDI Out of the MPC. I know, this is probably asked all the time and in the manual I couldn't figure it out.

What settings do I put it to, so that when I'm recording my sequence I can play the keys to the mpc?

this site has a search function that DOES work...I know, I've used it plenty of times...

Im not sure what you are asking, but I think you have it set up wrong if you are trying to use the keyboard to control your mpc. It should go midi our from keyboard to midi in on the mpc. Like i said Im not sure if this is what you are asking though.

KEYBOARD MIDI OUT>>>MPC MIDI IN
MPC MIDI OUT>>>KEYBOARD MIDI IN

SET THE MPC TRACK TO MIDI
SET THE MPC TRACK OUTPUT TO THE CORRECT MIDI CHANNEL

Ok this is my situation.. if it's even a situation.

I have a cheaper keyboard, it's a Casio LK-43.

It has MIDI In and Midi Out on it. Phones/Output on the back as well. I'm using an MPC2000XL. I have my turntables & mixer hooked up to the MPC now. Now I only have 1 midi cable, I'll have to get another but will this work from there to play the sounds from the keyboard to the pad? Or do I have to sample it everytime? Like, I'll see ppl playing the sounds from the keyboard and it plays on the mpc while they are recording...? I may not be to sure about the keyboards and mpc together but any help/tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

you just need to connect midi out (A) of the mpc to midi in of the keyboard and make sure to set the track type to midi A

To hear the keyboard sounds, you need to use the audio outs from the keyboard. Even if you trigger the keyboard via midi, you have to output the sound from the keys themselves...

im not sure if he understands midi is not a form of audio here as stated above. Make sure you have anything that needs playback ( i.e keyboard , sound mods , cpu ) into your audio source midi does not translate any type of audio signal.

The casio one doesn't look very midi controll-y. I'm sure it is tho.

It seems like it talks midi no ?

It sends receives midi messages if it has mid i/o on it he may just have to set up the casio to slave to the 2k. Still has to have audio running for it to play anything.

I don't have a 2nd midi cable yet, so I haven't tried what others have said. BUT, I did set it to midi on the mpc and was able to play the sounds on the pad of the mpc that were from the keyboard, but what exactly will I need to make it play my sounds on the mpc? Like, if I want a string in one of my tracks, how will this be possible? I have midi in & outs so, what else would I exactly need or have to do?

I'm sorry to be a pain and not fully comprehend this. I understand that midi doesn't transfer sound but data.. but how can I get the "sounds" to record w/my track? Make sense?... I hope! lol

get that second midi cable and get a mixer of some sort so you can connect your mpc + your casio to your speakers at the same time.
