You don't need mixer between mpc and the keyboard.Just put the line out from the keyboard to the line in of mpc and you are set.
Of course you can put the mixer between them,to add some effects (if your mixer has them),but personally I don't see a very good reason to do so.

Drive your keyboard via MIDI and take your Audio out of the keyboard directly to the mixer. Same thing with the MPC. Why fill up your MPC memory with keyboard samples when the keyboard already has the sounds available. Save that MPC memory for drum or vinyl samples.....just my .02

what about if i want to use a controller and sound module? i have a 1k and i tried to connect the output from the module to "record in" of the mpc. did i do this wrong? i tried a few other things, but no luck. is there any way i can hear the module's sounds on the mpc without a mixer?

I repeat....listen to your module through the module outputs. There is no need to run audio from your module to the MPC. MIDI your gear up!
