Purpose of Using a S-series module with the newer MPC's

First off I wasn't sure where to put this, so sorry if it's in the wrong forum.

What is the purpose of using one of the older S-series modules with say a 1000 or 2500? I understand the fact that it has a lower bit rate, but don't you have to sample from the S module to the MPC? Meaning that you have to use a zip disk to get your samples into the S module? That's like going back in time, isn't one of the huge pros of owning one of the newer MPC's the USB/harddrive/cddrive? So is it really worth the gritty sound?

i dont use the older akai samplers but i know alot of folks just feel they have a different sound to them. i looked at a few on ebay..i guess it cant hurt to have one, something to run your drums thru.

I see, so are there specific S modules that are known to compliment specific MPC's? Like what goes well with the 2000XL, 2500, or 4000?

they can all be midi'd up and used with any mpc.

I realize this, but are there any 2 that do go, or are known to go particularly well together?

A trend I see is older s-series module with new MPC and vice versa...it may just be me...
