I keep sampling breaks off records and seem to be getting the same dull hi hats. do you guys layer the hats with one off a sample cd? or do you not use the record sample of the hi hat and just use the hi hat off the sample cd. what is your process with the kick and snare, do you just use one sample off the record or layer the two, any tips to get me started>??

You don't have to use samples from records.....there are a wide variety of drum samples available including lots of free ones. I believe there are downloadable free samples on the AKAI site. You can also make your own with a microphone and anything that makes noise......

Try downloading sounds, try sampling of cd's, try OTHER things than what you are doing now.
