Classical music is a good way to start. Good progressions and a large majority of it is instrumental, so it's easy-peasy! Also, much of classical music is based on repetition with slight variations, so that's something else to help you build your tracks.
Don't be shy to loop the simplest of sh*t - alot of the best producers out there (Madlib, for example) use the simple loops with ill drums to the greatest effect.
Another good tip is to find records that have been sampled in a tune that you know. Find the sample on the record, chop it up, and eventually try to replicate what the producer has done.
You will only learn by trial and error. Don't be afraid to f*ck up and start again, or totally forget something you've worked your ass off on for a long time.
