CDROM Drive & MPC2k

Bless. I need some feedback on using one of these external CDROMs with my MPC2000. I'm thinking it's the best (and easiest) thing to use. Let me know something. Good lookin' out.

I have a scsi cd-rom drive that I sometimes use for my 2k when it's not connected to another one of my samplers.

I highly recommend it if u have a huge Akai format sample CD selection like mine

It will anable you to load Akai format sample CDs in your mpc 2k in a matter of seconds and that, in my opinion, is a good option to have.

okay a more in depth answer

a cd drive is nice for loading samples at a fast rate, but you can't write to the cd so you will still be stuck using floppies, therefore it would be more adavantageous to get a card reader. You can still convert your wav files to .snd using the MPC Editor for the "rapid loading" you seek.....plus you can write to the card reader. You also don't have to worry too much about the moving parts in the cdrom drive wearing out. You also can fit more on the card (pending on size) than you can on a cd.

So effectively u can have 3-4 drives hooked up if u really wanted to...

There are reasons to do this, for example:
I don't use a card reader, and I don't like formating my zips for the computer, because it creates alot of risky and unuseable file listings that make the disks seem 'full' to the mpc because of 'too many files' error messages. For these reasons, when I dump samples from the computer, I just burn them to CDr as .wavs, and load them into the MPC via an old scsi cdRom. It's daisy chained off the zip drive connected to the 2kXL, and when I'm not using it, I just shut off the cdrom. Because the circuit still sees the physical terminator on the cdrom, you don't have to switch the zip terminator dipswitch whether the other device is off or on.
But if you don't have older .wav or akai sounds, or need don't have similar limitations as above, they are right...just use a card reader to swap samples from the computer.

to get it to work i set it to scsi 4 on the back and then hooked it up and hey presto, this is the one i know is compatable.
