listen up

I have an mpc 1000 and reason ect. But im not that good at sampling. somebody tell me how to begin sampling from other songs to get good melodies. Its almost like a puzzle to me. I wish I would have stay around some producers I grow up with but it aint work out like that. I aint talking about to crazy sampling either im trying to make good music.

this should probably be in the production techniques section or somewhere but.....

find a dope sample, like a loop. Find the BPM, chop it up into however many peices you want. Go from there and sequence it any way you want.

if you have a PC, you can edit your samples.

do you have a turntable or cd to sample from? even downloading from the net is plausible too.

fire up the PC and use a sound editing software like Audacity and go from there.

I don't think that there is an easy answer for this one. Making a good beat is not as easy as 1) do this 2) do that... It will take some trial and error to find the right sounds that sound good to you. So I would sit down listen to some songs and just start pulling samples off. See what works and what doesn't.

Thanks for all the help. Im just trying to get a new sound. Im trying to make my mark in the game. And I am going to try different methods to making music. Cause I want to make hiphop beats, r&b beats, Rock & roll beats, dirty south beats with quality.

just keep practicing, experimenting, putting hours in on your machine. there's no magic secret; you just have to put in the work. at some point it will stop feeling like work just to get a sample in and chopped up. that's when you stop worrying about HOW to do stuff and start thinking about HOW it sounds.

listen to music, practice chopping, practice chopping, practice chopping, listen to more music, practice chopping.

and practice more after you do all of the above. practice is the key.

yeah,listen to those guys...but to just getcha feet wet ,pick a random spot in a song(if it has drums in it try to start at a kick drum)then pick another random point in the song as the ending and see if you can make them loop perfectly ...and dont just adjust the tempo..if ya gotta trim it,trim it..if ya gotta stretch it ,stretch it...just try to get a perfect loop...once you do it a couple times that part is easy it's now just trynna pick out the hot samples....PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!
