haven't used this feature at all but reading other threads this sounds like a
walk in the park compared to how i was doing this before.

im using original OS for the MPC 1k

when tuning the sample in the is feature is the sample drawn out like it
would be using a pitch shifter or is more like a time stretch?

eg. i do this in program with the tune option but samples are pitched ,
henced sample time is longer or shorter.. so after that i often use the
note on feature to do the trimming so notes aren't overlapped

is this a getto way? does the new OS solve this by time stretching instead of pitching?

cheers

sorry mates have to bump this

tried this feature last night and it is still pitched.

i guess im wondering if a time stretch option is in the new os?

sorry this is a OS question now

16 levels isn't a timeshift process, it's pitch.

Pitch: changes length and pitch (just playing the sample faster or slower)

Timestretch: changes the length of a sample

Pitchshift: changes pitch without changing the length (thus its pitch + timestretch)

I dont think anyone would need 16 lvls pitchshift, cos it changes the sonic quality of the sample plus the mpc would have to do realtime pitchshift, dont know if its capabel of it.

i think pitchshift would be great though.
if you had a bass sample in E and wanted to pitchshift it up to to a A then i could
see it being really useful especially if the length wasn't changed, then delays
would be in time etc.

does 2500's have this capability? if so im upgrading so i can just play
guitar and bass licks once, sample them, them pitchshift them up as i
would play them.

you can play around with the patch phrase feature if it isn't a really melodic sample.

the patch phrase allows it to keep its pitch and change tempo at the same time.

it is very important that you zoom way in and chop on the transients and you have to input the original tempo exactly as it is.

this feature can be useful.

personally i never use it. But this is as close as you are going to get i think.

The 2500 does have a pitch shift function which you can use manually on the sample - then distribute them to the different pads.

i'll have to search that out further as im not sure what your suggesting
Im interested in playing a guitar lick, sampling it, then pitching it up or down
(keeping the timing exact) then applying it to different pads. if possible.

i've been successful doing this in soundedit16 where i' pitched the sample down
2 steps then manually clipped out some of the sample so its the same length.
i think thats what you talking about but on the mpc.

Stilo
i'll have to try this on the weekend at the store, if they let me.
if it works i'll be switching as it would cut a considerable amount of time e
out of production. if the sample loses integrity then i'll stick with my 1000 .

you're basically gonna have to stick to either playinging your own guitar notes or doing lots of tedious time stretching and pitching.

that just takes too much time for me. I'm all about workflow.

patchphrasing allows you to change the tempo and keep the same pitch.

i think i misread you the first time

here ya cap.

intricate stuff will just have to be pitched and snipped i guess.

i think i was hoping the 16 levels feature would be a god sent.

Just a side note...you can try both things with your 1000 as well, as long as you got the Akai V2.0 OS. The 2500 can do nothing more than that.
