Are the MPC 1000's pads really THAT bad?

hey yo,

im stuck between the 1000 and 500. As you can probably guess, im am pretty near flat broke and dont want to spend any more then 1300 on an mpc. I will not buy used, also.

My question is, are the pads on the 1000 really as unreliable as i have read about? I do not want to make a purchase this large for something that will let me dow in a matter of months. I plan on making about 1 beat every 3-4 days or so. And i have tested the 1000 before, and it seemed like a pretty solid machine.

How are the pads on the 500? The same?

which is the better purchase?

any input is very welcome.

I can tell you only these two things, as I don't own either of them:

- You can't really tell if a machine is solid from trying it once.

- The pads on the 500 are made like the older MPCs again, and not like on the 1000. The 1000 pads were a bad mistake, which Akai quickly learned.

what are u worrying for lol? unless u want a 2500 or 4000 ur fine..

That's his problem...the 1000 and 500 are the only ones he can afford. The 1000 has the **** up pads, while the 500 is kinda limited in features. A dilemma.

I was in the same situation very recently, I chose the 1000.
Yes, yes, the pad issue. I had a hard time justifying spending that much money on something I am going to have to fix in the future, but an even harder time justifiying that much money on something that wasnt EXACTLY what I wanted. Plus, the pads on the 1000 feel better(though not quite like my old 2000xl) while they are working. The entire unit feels better all around. So far Im very happy with it.
I say decide on the features you want the most and use it to its fullest and if issues arise, handle em.

The pad issue on the 1000 is there. Does it bother me NO.

Why i hear u ask, pads keys backlights switches batterys sliders etc etc

ALL MOVING PARTS EVENTUALLY FAIL!!!!!

Ok so akai messed up but someone (antonym) will create a better technique

Example ever owned an old piece of gear something like a moog sh101 s950

Tried to get support off the manufacturer (dont get me wrong some of the aftersales these guys do is great but can cost heaps) go to a third party repairer watch them change a couple of switches to the 3rd party guys hell its better and its cheaper.

Why do they do all the replacement parts for all other mpc's ? Cos they fail.

Id say when you do change those pads on the mpc1000 they wil;l be significantly better (come on antonym)

and a 2000xl is $999 brand new

1300 is approaching used 2500 range. I think it would be wise to rethink ur used gear policy.

No I didn't, but I assumed he didn't want to miss the features of the newer MPCs.
