Connecting a MPC to a mixer.

I'm looking into buying a MPC 2000 pretty soon and was wondering how would i connect to my dj mixer. Would i use rca cables or a 1/4" cable, and how does the quality between the two cables compare? Also i have ableton live which i plan on using with the akai and mixer, would i use a soundcard to connect to my computer?

to sync to your software you will need a midi interface for the computer. but if you just want to record the audio from the mpc to computer, then yes a soundcard is needed

i can tell you what worked for me when I was syncing to cubase for a while.

the Motu Fastlane USB Midi interface.

its only a 2x2 interface meaning 2 midi inputs and 2 midi outputs. but it was plenty for me and it did what it was supposed to.

I have a m audio midisport uno (midi in and out -> usb)

and i have a m audio mobile pre interface, that does not have midi capabilities..

am i still coo?

i dont see why that wouldnt work. i dont like the idea of only having 1 in/out but if its all you need then cool! all the interface is for is to let your mpc talk to the computer and vice versa. i dont want to promise you that will work flawlessly, but i dont see why it wouldnt do what you need it to do......

Yea i have a 16 track mixer as well, but i was just checking to make sure it will still work right if my mpc audio ports and midi ports are not connected to the same device (although, in essence, they are; to the computer)
