Best advice you can give for playing bassline on 16 levels?

I'm having difficulty playing my basslines out. I am assigning everything to 16 levels by tune and I'm just having a hard time coming up with something to compliment my track. What key pad do you guys usually assign the 16 levels to? Any advice would be really useful, thanks!

normally i put it at pad 9 but if i wanna go deeper then i put it on 13. but i suggest investing in a keyboard or something so you can play your basslines out that way. i mean, the mpc comes in handy for certain situations but there's times when it just wont do. so I go and hammer some keys (or try to atleast lol)

try auto chromatic assigning the bass sample..........tends to a better job on basslines
