Lofi beats!

Hi all.

Anyone want to share any techniques for making the lofi stuff?

My formula....


Very knackerd £20 record deck. stylus is destroyed. Can get very interesting
sounds from old 60's vinyl.


Emax sampler. Makes everything sound like old vinyl. Very weird sound. Sounds "real" in an amazing way.

I prefer this even to sp1200. As after you written drums you can always beat detective them and chop them to individual tracks in tools.

The advantage over the sp is you can play chords and riff's etc.

Dbx 266xl.

Still a wicked compressor.

Desk eq. I still use desk eq for creative FX's. Just using a basic soundcraft desk.

Pro tools is ok for "mixing" but the digital stuff is to bland for lofi.



Ok i am getting away from hip hop stuff now. I am doing some out there pop music. Based on 80's bands.

So i decided to go out and buy a casio keyboard and a £5 mic.

Great stuff man ! I like to see people who really want to do thing in different way. Old lo fi sound...gotta try this myself
But no software here...maybe when I get my hands on some cheap equpiment,it'll be more fun.

To be honest i was trying to score a deal recently. My music is to abstract to be taken seriously.

So i tried doing some kind of housey/hip hop.

I just couldn't do it. I can mix and get all the sounds etc. But i find it so boring. In the end I looked at the pro tools mix window.

I had no motivation to mix it down what so ever.
