You can check the mpc comparison chart on akaipro.com
I'd say get a MPC1000. 500 is really harf to learn cause of its screen, and 2500 is way too expensive

do you have any beat making experince? Have you ever used an mp? Do you know any one you could link up with to see how they get down on one? I would too recommend looking at the mpc comparisons forum. If i were you i would make a list of all the things i would want in a machine and then do check list style. Take your time and dont rush into anything. Years ago i sat up at guitar center and made beats on the mps there untill they either kicked me out or i had to leave. Hope this helps and best of luck.

in my opinion the best MPC to start with:

I would get an 2000 classic with no extras they are really affordable and give you everything you need.
Above all, the 2K classic is a very nice machine i would prefer it over the MPC 1000 anyday

True
but you pay circa 150 to 200$ more for the XL. But if that doesn´t matter definetly get the XL.
Beside that it´s a really nice MPC to start with, graphic display, timestretch, enough RAM and easy to use.
Also it has a nice built quality and is reliable.
