Hmm....my PT is belt-drive, and definately does have a preamp built-in. How else would it power it's speaker????

not the best quality samples offa that PT in comparison to a turntable with a good cartridge. IMO

personally I think you're going in way too complex for a newbie...
My suggestion (ive been there before)

Reason 3.0 or similar programme (I wouldnt get an MPC until you've learned more about the software side of it..)
Numark USB Turntable (comes with audacity to record vinyl)
Wave editor (eg. Recycle, Soundforge, Audition) to chop the samples
Emu 0404 Soundcard (if using MIDI, will erase latency)
Studio Monitors (Speakers)
Amp
you can get all those things for....around £6-700, and that set-up is fine to sample vinyl, MP3's, WAV's, whatever..

but EASE YOUR WAY IN, if you give youself too steep a learning curve you're more likely to give up, just work to your level, and read the manuals..
