Loading up sequences

As you may know if you read my last thread, I have a friends MPC and Im trying to get to grips with it and learn a bit myself while I have it..

He was having problems with it and he hasnt used it for ages because he cant load up sequences properly, he can save them, but not load them up..apologies if I'm being a bit vague but im trying to translate someone elses problem so Im not 100% sure what exactly the problem is...

does anyone know how to solve this or why he might be having problems?

any help is appreciated..

what exactly are you saving when you do? and what does the machine tell you when you try to load it up. what kind of problem are you having? gotta give a bit more info, bro.

ok, this is the summary of what he told me.

He can audition samples and drum hits on the pads

He can make a sequence

When he makes a sequence he saves it to his flash card

The problem he has is when he tries to load them back up, the track is playing as it should, the clock is ticking but he isn't getting any sound from playback...

as I said its hard because I'm trying to find out something I havent actually tried before, if anyone can help it would be great..

yea well it sounds like he's saving the sequenes but not the program. what kind of mpc do you have?

When I do it, I save the .all (ALL SEQUENCES AND SONGS) and the .pgm (SAVE A PROGRAM AND SOUNDS)

or if you are working with more the one program you can save the .aps (ALL PROGRAMS AND SOUNDS)

but you HAVE to save the program as well as the sequences. only saving the sequences will save what you sequenced and layed down but it dosnt save the sounds. thats what the program file is.

then when you load the beat back up, you will have to load the .all file and the .pgm file.

ok i see, so it sounds like he's just saving the sequence or the program file but he needs to do both, ok that sounds better.
I'll talk to him and have a look myself when I get home..

oh ok you have a 1000. im sure the save process is similar. im using the 2000. im almost sure thats what the problem is though

if you want to be on the save side it is good to save the entire memory. this will make a project file to the folder and if you load up that project file your mpc will load everything up like you had it before turning of the machine.

also go to http://www.akaipro.com/support.php and download the manual if your friend did´t give you his hardcopy to read up some of the basic operations. then come back if you have some more questions.

he does have the manual but I've never touched the machine, so its a bit of a minefield for me, he should have done all this really...

I'll go to the akai site and check the manual when I get home..
