like where to truncate it so it wont mess with the attack or the sample wont end aruptly , i want it to sound just like im hitting a key on the synth as im hitting it on the pad

which mpc do u have????what keyboard/synth do u have????be specific plz

i have an MPC 4000.... and i have a motif ES/ Fantom XR rack mount.. i bang out drums from the keyboard on my mpc pads...

While sampling synth sounds is cool, chaining your mpc to control your synth is so much cooler. I have created these handy visuals to help out


First, put the audio outs of your mpc and synth into the ins of a mixer. Then the outs of a mixer go to your speakers.




Then, daisy chain your MPC and your Synth like so




Then put your mpc and your synth on the same channel. I wont include all the shit that could go wrong in the process because there is a lot, but basically just go into the midi/synch mode of your mpc and the midi mode of your synth and mess around till you figure it out.

there are a couple ways to do this,

but really, if you are layering the sounds, thats the beauty of layering, is that you get to decide the ADSR and etc., so worry not when you are sampling them!

What I do is start the sample record process a little bit before I actually sample, that way when I go to trim the sound I get to choose exactly how fine I want to truncate it.

I mean if you want to layer the sound and you really want it to sound exactly like when you trigger it, layer it as a midi trigger along with another sound on the mpc. the only problem with this is you can't adjust the parameters as you see fit (which brings us full circle back to not having to even worry about if you get it exactly as it sounds off the rack).

that to me is what makes sampling and resampling so beautiful. You might sample it and end up with a sound that is even cooler than the one you intended to sample. or maybe the attack will be off just a little bit, but will make it sound even better.

hey you know what? im not tryna be an a$$hole or nothin but Use your ears man!! a vid will show you what to do, but man its up to you to learn how to use your ears. only you can tell youself how you want that sample.

seriously. anyway, i like to start the chop right at the beginning of the sound. no space in the front. and sometimes i dont really worry about the end of the chop because you can always decay that off if you need to. dont leave too much space or extra stuff on the end. end it when the sound ends. but always leave yourself at least a LITTLE space on the end so you get the full effect of the chop and like i said you can always trim/decay that end bit off.

i could show you better then i could explain, but the bottom line is - USE YOUR EARS!!

so your samples sound punchy, because you truncate them right at the start of the sample when you hit the pad the attack is like 0..

yea i would love to get a visual explanation that would be dope...
