your not wasting your time, the more the merrier the way i see it. if you want to use an mpc, and still use software for some things, or combine software and mpc, or whatever, thats good for you, and can be very useful

I also got a desktop PC with Reason 3, FL 7, Cubase SX3, and Magix Samplitude with a Korg Pad Kontrol, Novation X Station, and Remote Zero SL. I been using software since I started producing in 2005. I got a strong desire to learn to make beats on the MPC1k, but I don't want to just totally diss the software set up I have invested both time and money in. Most of my software set up is very handz on, I barely use the mouse casue of the Remote Zero Sl and the drum pad controlers I got. I did get the ebook for the 1k from Mpc-tutor and checked it out and it looks like something I can get used to cause I am very handz on when it comes to making my tracks, I like touchin faders, and turning knobs etc. Using the MPD24 really got me wanting to get an MPC1k also (eventhough I know the MPC is a different beast than the MPD). :?: My question is, if I am not willing to committ wholeheartedly to either the software set up or the MPC1k can I continue to excel at beatmakin like I have been? in other wordz, iz it stupid 4 me to try to excel in both? Just need honest opinions, cause I am considering bidding on a maxed out barely used MPC1k on ebay this week. :?:

Dude after getting Reason, you still **** with FL. WOW thats interesting. When I got Reason I never looked back at FL. You should do the same.

BTW im not dowining FL. S**t I own it. I made some good music with it. Im just saying IMO, Reason is a much better software program, and it works well with the padkontrol and a midi keyboard. I used that set up for awhile and like you said, i like to be more hands on so i bought a 4K plus. I tinkered around with the 1K and its kool. So if you want portability go with that. If its going to stay stationary, I'd advise on a 2Kxl. Much better feel all around.

8) I only use FL when I colaborating with other catz that use it, and even then I usually Rewire Reason 3 into that Joint and bang it out that way. Sometime I just keep software for compatibilities sake, ya feel me. One of the other catz in my crew is stuck on FL and if datz what he likes datz cool as long as tha trackz he brangs 2 tha table is up to par itz all good.

Another concern is that I don't want to be a "jack of all trades and a master of none", doin a lil of this and a lil of that can sometimes leave u with a lil of nothin ya know.

Holla back,

Thats true but as said before in other posts you can utilize the 1000 with Reason. As far as being a jack of all trades, its very possible. Thats why that saying even exisists. I learned Reason, Abelton, Sound Forge and others without owning a manual for any of the programs and with no prior knowledge. You just have to be persistant and it will come to you, with whatever you choose to go with.

:D Datz whatz up :!: If u don't grind u won't shine. Itz only a waste of time if I ain't willin to put my all into it. I must make an informed decision about whether or not I am really willin to put in the work to be dat Jack of All Trades.
