need feedback with my beats on mpc2500

i just posted a few beats on www.myspace.com/beatfiendent can u tell me what ya think i just got my mpc like 5 months ago and want to know if im doing ok.

Before I say anything, I like your sound overall, so I want you to take what I say as constructive criticism. It reminds me a lot of the ideas I had when I first bought an mpc. I'm no expert, but can offer my two centavos. Your doing good.

On the listen to your heart one, its really dissapointing when you hear in the beginning the song used to sample from and you think 'ohhh snap there gonna remake this song, tight!", but then all it is is just some chopped up samples randomly placed. I think leave the origional sample out of the beginnnig if you are just gonna use chops of it. Half the time I end up closing the song to go listen to the origional.


Sounds like you got most of the basics down, work on developing schemes to your songs (i.e. intro, 16 bars, chorus, variation, etc.) so that your 'songs' dont become repetetive. Also, get away from using quantise a little bit, it will add a whole new element to your sound.

I can't stand it on beat selling websites when somebody puts up like an 8 bar loop that's repeated for 3 and a half minutes and is like 'yo check out this fire, 100 bucks buys the exclusive.'

My suggestion is, work on your transsions between samples. Do you work with any other sound sources other than just samples? I mean like sound modules/keyboards? In a lot of cases you may need to lay a light pad or underlying melody or something to make the overall landscape come alive and blend. You have the basics down, I think you just need to work on adding other sounds to accent the samples.
