mpc questions : Note mapping and effects

Say i have one piano sample i want to use, does the mpc have a feature where by it can map out different notes of that sample to the pads, almost like a keyboard?

Also, what are the basic effects like on the MPC?

I'm asking these questions as i'm still in doubt on what to choose between an mpc or asr-10.
