Check out your local Guitar Centers, E-bay, pawn shops, or other used instrument stores, and anything that's 19" rackmount (or even smaller) that basicly has midi, 2 outputs or more, and some sort of internal menu system to do a bit of sound creation. If it doesn't let you go too indepth with just a small lcd screen, maybe there's some software out there that might help you out, depending on the make/model of the unit. (For example, a DX7 software editor might help you out on a TX16R rackmount Yammy unit).....
You might want any extra outs your sound unit has to go directly into your mpc, and possibly into any other effect units you have handy, besides the 2 main ones that go straight to your mixer/pa. Check your manuals on making the sound unit work in unison with the mpc and a controller with a midi hookup. Oh yeah, you may want to research what you buy, before you drop any money down on it. Some sound modules might sound too digital, too 80's, or maybe even too cheap for what you're trying to do, but if you know how to use your mpc, you should start learning some tricks to help you get the sound you want from other gear....Just have fun no matter what you get from Yamaha, Emu, Ensonique, Novation, Roland & Korg, and keep making beats with your new toy......
