newbie looking for sum help

i got my mpc hooked up to my fantom, i got no sound comming out of the headphone jack in the front of the mpc. i hear sumthing when i press the pads, but i have to plug my headphones into my fantom. everything seems to be in working order so far, i got it off e-bay though....is that bad or am i not doing something? please help, i got no manual. ty
