can a MPC easily replace missing sampler on a stage piano

This is a very bewbee question. Sorry in advance

I am going to buy a stage piano (Rolland RD-700 gx or S90ES), but I need to be able to, on the fly, record my playing, and then listen to it.

UNFORTUNATELY none of the good stage pianos incorporate a sequencer ! and I don't want to foll around with a PC/Mac attached to my piano.

So I wonder if my solution won't be a basic MPC, permanently fixed on the piano and connected to the midi (or USB ??) port of my piano ?

Question: Will it become as easy to record and then listen to the performance than using the REC/PLAY buton of some electronics pianos such as YAM CP300 or P140 ?

If you mean recording the whole performance as audio - I wouldn't be so sure about using the mpc for that purpose. Better would be a mini disc or that kind of thing.
But if you mean recording it as midi and then replaying everything with mpc, then you are in the right place I think, even with the basic mpc 500 for that matter.

But for playing it back, will the keyboard just re-play it if I press "play" on the MPC500 ?

sure for midi it is fine, whats its built for really. Midi information is so small you can easily do a album on the mpc. You may if your just looking into a midi sequencer ( no audio ) look into some of the older ( cheaper ) roland midi sequencers all they do is record and play back midi. I will have to check on the exact model on these but they had some good ones out before midi sequencers came stock in a lot of gear. No need to over buy a mpc if your not going to be sampling audio and arranging on it kinda a overkill for the 500 bucks. I will be back when i find the roland models for you.

It'll work great for recording your piano via MIDI......plus you can "fix" any screw -ups easily. The 500 is small an a fairly powerful MIDI sequencer.....

Yamaha QY70 (http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1997_articles/sep97/yamahaqy70.html) would suit you perfectly. You can use it to play back through your piano but as it is ultra portable you can also replay using the built in sounds (which, for its vintage, are pretty good) when away from your keys. MPC would work too but tbh seems like an extravagant solution to your problem given all the features you won't use. You can't record audio at all so if you think you might need these it wouldn't be for you.

I don't think that you will need the whole power of an mpc, but it will do the job for you so if you can spend some extra dollars, go for it.
