Making Connections to 003 Rack

Hi Everyone,

I have set up my MPC 4000 to my Digi 003 rack and just wanted to confirm that I have made all of the right connections.

First I connected the MIDI OUT of the MPC to the MIDI IN of the 003 rack. Also the MIDI IN of the MPC to the MIDI OUT of the 003 rack.

Secondly I connected my Monitors to the Monitor out on the Digi 003.

Third, I connected the Main Outs on the MPC to the Analog In's on the Digi 003 rack.

Now, I need to setup the MIDI in the MPC.

So my understanding is that MIDI 1 and MIDI 2 can route to the sequencer or the sampler and the Drum can route to the sequencer or any of the MIDI outs (A-D)?

So I have two questions. If I wanted to sequence within the MPC I leave the DRUM path to the sequencer? If this is true, how would I later bring those tracks onto protools?

My second question is if I route the DRUM directly to OUT A, which is going into MIDI IN on the 003 rack, will this record the MIDI into protools and then redirect to the sequencer which then goes to the main outs into the 003 rack and out to my monitors?

Sorry for the long post, but I am trying to understand this.
