OK, as some may know...I"m brand, brand new to the mpc 500
but anyways....my last topic was about if it was NECCESSARY to have a CF CARD or RAM CARD or BOTH....

reason i ask is b/cuz....I bought a PROGRAM KIT from a website....plugged my usb to drop it into the mpc but when i go to load it....IT DOESNT EVEN APPEAR ON THE LOAD SECTION

COuld it be a possibly a memory card? winzip (which i dont have)?.....any opinions....thank you guys

I didn't have a problem with loading, and I go between my computer and MPC all the time. As far as the memory card goes, it'll be pretty obvious if you have one or not - there's a little button it pops out, yadda yadda. It sounds like the 500 ships with a 32 bit card.

Winzip is totally unrelated to the process. Do you mean a zip drive? To get access to your memory card from your computer (see page 103 of your manual), plug in your usb cable, then on the usb select load, on that menu select usb. I don't know how it's done on a mac, but at this point you should see the drive on your pc.

Edit - I take it back, I do know how it's done a mac, see page 103 of the manual.

thank you for the reply fat horse

but what i mean about not having a WINZIp is im guessing my FOLDER(program i bought) is a compressed file so i have to open it somehow..right?? or nah???

and the only CF card i have is the one that came along with the mpc 500...which is the 128MB mpc sound library card......i dont have a CF CARD for memory or a RAM card....is it neccessary to have them in order to upload/load for kits/samples into the mpc500????

i'm try to understand this lil machine or the jist of it til i cop the 1000 in early fall or sometime before

thank you once again

Ok, I think I see what you're saying - these files came in some compressed format. Are they .zip or .rar? I don't know what version of windows you have, but with XP I think you can just right click .zips and choose the extract method you want. Also, there are free versions of winzip, like this one which will also do .rar files: http://www.7-zip.org/

As far as your flash card and ram, I believe that the 500 is going to have the same setup. You'll use the flash card to access your files, load them from your computer to the mpc, and then load them into the MPC's memory (RAM). Yes, you need both of these, and your MPC should have them straight out of the box. You might be confused because you can add additional RAM. Again, this is all explained in your manual.

If you don't have any more room available on the CF card you have, you can either delete stuff to make more room, or buy another card.

winrar.com unzips everything.
