New to the MPC...I need desperate help

I just purchased the MPC 2000XL...I've been making beats on FL for the past 8 months but I don't like the program at all so I decided to upgrade...I'm not knowledgeable at all about hardware...I need advice on how I should set up my home studio...Is pro-tools needed for beatmaking or is it mainly for recording...should I get a mixer? etc

also I have been trying to read up on this stuff but the info is never to the point...that's why I was hoping you guys could help me out

What I have is simple and works for me.

The main unit is probably my DJ-Mixer. I have 2 turntables connected to it and have enough inputs to attach CD players and other things to sample with. The mixer allows for general sound adjustments to get the sample sounding good. The mixer has two 1/4 inch master outs to the MPC.

Sampling sources >> Mixer >> MPC >> Digital MultiTrack recorder
