What's your advice for bass samples ?

I have not got a clue of what you are instructing but I have an idea.
I've heard about VST patches (apparently compatible with many music softwares) so this must have something to do with computers...

But since I got my first and only MPC I do not even consider using my PC for music,
I am Hardware minded now.

i also recently bought an mpc to get away from the PC and be more hardware focussed. loving it. my computer had been in the shop for the last week and i'm not missing it at all. (no - i'm not typing this message on my mpc. i'm on my g.friend's computer at the moment)

Umm.... eventhough you have the mpc to do the sampling, sequencing and stuff, it really doesn't mean that the PC becomes obsolete as many operations are more flexible (eg. postproducing, mastering, EQing, whatnot) and note too that you can midiroute your mpc to a pc so even that will expand your workenvironment a whole lot more...

but back to my suggestion. I was suggesting running your bass samples through a guitar pedal, and as you're implying that you're VST-challenged you could by a bunch of pedals to do the work. Basically they're FX-units.

Oh that's interesting...
I am not an expert at all, I though that guitar pedals were for... guitars...
Do you own any such kind of pedal ?
Which one do you recommend and can you post a few links please ?

i've made a few guitar pedals. if you can use a soldering iron, then it's easy and costs about $20 to make a pedal. they are analogue (you can make a digital delay) and sound really good. much more interesting than vsts and digital dsp units.

some useful efffects are:
distortion, phaser, delay, chorus. tremelo and noise gate can also be useful. when you add an envelope follower then it all becomes even more interesting.

Yeah, up to this point I've been using different VSTs so my hardware-knowledge is kinda limited.

At least Boss has a reputation of making good pedals or you could try out some of the budget pedals from Behringer.

Also Thomann has its own brand name called Harley Benton, those pedals are budget-priced too and I'm really curious about seeing that are they any good (thinking of ordering a couple).


Or you could just make your own, as suggested above.
