what is a good mixer to sample vynil off my turntable?

got an mpc2000xl and a gemini pt2100 turntable, all I simply want to know is what is a good mixer to use for sampling vynil for under $200.00 used, or new? or could i just plug in my pt sraight into my mp. thanks

currently got my eye on a Gemini PS-424X.

i honestly dont use a mixer or a dj turntable. i have an old school turntable from a componant stereo. i think the biggest thing would be the needle.

the way i work is that i sample first and then treat the samples as needed, that way i have the raw sample in case i want to do something different to it. if you eq it on the way in, it is what it is.

Sice he already as the TT and he asked about the mixer, maybe that should be what the answers are about....



If you plan to add more gear later, try an buy something that will be useful in the future..... Get a multi channel mixer.. Something with more than 2 channels....


As Lamp said, just find something that has the options/specs you are interested in and go from there. Read reviewsto find out if the items fail alot. If you buy new, then it will come with a warranty, and that is always a good thing....

I got a Yamaha MG 16/4 for $169 (Used) from Sam Ash,and also got the extended warranty for another $39.... That give me a 2 year warranty on an already used item..... Ifound it in the store, so you mayhave to do some shopping away from the web.

thank you guys for answering, did some research, think i am going with a mg-12 or a mackie vlz, they both had good reviews.

Does it have to be a DJ mixer or are you also interested in single phone pre-amp stages? Just curious, because if you can minus the pots and faders and other "compromise for budget components" you'd probably come out with a better quality input chain for the same money. Don't get me wrong, for a lot of people DJ mixers work great and don't bother them....but for me, most of them just don't sound that good in isolation (in the rec input chain). Now, for $200 bucks don't expect even a great quality phono pre-amp, but once factoring in all the electronics in a DJ Mixer.....definitely don't when considering those.

I personally don't use DJ mixers to get my signals into a device, unless, well I intend on mixing it with said DJ Mixer. Maybe weigh your limited options. Just my shillings anyway. And yeah, get the best cart/stylus your money can buy....but don't skimp on what follows it in the chain, you'll regret it.

the point i was trying to make, in my own words was this, if the original poster was looking for a mixer to feed samples through, its not really necissary to buy a dj mixer if you are not going to be using it for the purposes of djing. a preamp would suffice. in my personal opinion, it is better to sample straight from the record, and then process it after, which would leave the original sample intact. you know, non destructive.
