The first part to your question is yes. But on the second question, it depends on how you've got your midi channels set up or if what channel (s) will be bypassed/muted on the mpc due to it being daisy chained.

You're thinking too hard. My method relies on doing the drum patterns on the mpc first, then sync it up to the daw. Once sync'd to the daw (daw master, mpc slave), I then record each track to a track within the daw itself.

Oh, ok. Then have you tried using your mpc the same as you would an instrument or sound module? I do this occasionally when I work with sample libraries/loops.

BTW, the mpc's transport gets to sit this one out. But I'll access it's sounds from the DAW however.

I just connected the output from my MPC to the input on my soundcard and record straight into Cubase and that works fine, if you have a good enough soundcard.

It seems like you're mixing up MIDI and AUDIO.

To record AUDIO from your MPc into cubase you will need to connect the AUDIO outputs of your MPC to the AUDIO input(s) of the soundcard of your computer.

You can not record AUDIO over a MIDI connection.
