Lamp, do you daisy chain your keyboards straight to the MIDI connections on the interface and record midi performances straight to the DAW? Also, do you multi track from the MPC using all 8 1/4" inputs on the interface? Just got my macbook pro and I'm trying to get things figured out and I was thinking I would need a mixer in my setup. Someone I know had said something about using 6 of the 1/4" inputs on the interface to track from the MPC, and I would need the remaining two inputs for the Mixer outputs, which would have keyboard audio outputs running through it, but maybe I don't need a mixer.
I have an MPC 2000xl and a microKorg btw...don't plan to add much more hardware...I plan to use the microkorg as a controller as well for virtual instruments.

Fig 1.7 is more my speed.
Your first question to lamp has me wondering why would you want to daisychain when you've got the midi interface to work with in the first place.
Figs. 1.4, 1.5, & 1.7 all show a mixer involved in the scenario. It makes more sense to route all your 8 outputs from the mpc to the mixer rather than going straight to the audio interface.

I've bought the 8 outs while out here in the desert so I haven't used 8outs at home yet.
At home, my mpc mains went into triton audio input, the triton optical spdif into digi001.
MPC midi into Triton
Triton midi into digi to Vegas
Triton as master, I didn't need midi sync into Vegas, I just use Vegas as a recorder
no midi, no sync, no master, no slave. I'll change all of this up once I get home and look into getting a
firewire track mixer, or audio interface/mixer/stand alone capable of at least 12 or more ins w/ all the connections I need.
In no way was my stuff standard and/or the same I'm guessing most people connect their stuff.
My setup has never been "normal", lol.
