Ill-Green wrote::o Great insight Dab on the optical cables. I connected the optical out from my Tascam PortaStudio to the cd-recorder and tried that out. Damn what a difference, its like a fresh water stream of pure sound compared to the tap waters of analog.

Cool. Plus this is something you can start doing if you're not already doing this. Instead of using headphone outs on the cd recorder, try using the anolog outs instead for realtime monitoring. The recorder will act as a s/c because it's handling the ad/da conversion from that point anyway.
