Were you thinking about using one of those simple usb midi interface cables, like a midi uno or something on those lines?
I'll be honest with you, no, it was a straight question about the native capability of the MPC1000. However, that's a useful idea dabmeister - but I must admit I have had bad experiences with those simple USB/MIDI interfaces in the past. For example the one I built into my
custom MIDI controller failed annoyingly, and the one I used to use out live also died, in the middle of a gig! Nothing to stop me buying a decent one, although the costs start to add up then...
The background to my question is that I am thinking of using the MPC (upgraded with laptop HD?) as a mobile studio for jamming out ideas from my sample library and then workng on these in Ableton back in the studio, but I want to be able to use it as a MIDI controller for Drum Racks in that situation as well - but the MIDI port on my soundcard is occupied by the custom controller and chaining the MPC in series above or below that is possible but gives too much latency in the overall system. So I'm back to buying a merger or separate MIDI interface or something which is exactly what I don't want if possible - I like a really minimal setup and space is an issue also.
So after searching the forum I thought I'd drop the question on here and see what the vibe on the forum was like at the same time
