Buying an MPC

I'am just abought to purchase an MPC 500 in the next couple of months. I was wondering, what other equipment will i need to have a good basic low cost set up?

First, let me ask you, are you just getting into audio/midi production? If so, what are your requirements?

an alright set of monitors and some good drum sounds(if u dont have some already)...

Well, I'm a college student and have only just started learning about production techniques but have always seen MPC's as a good starting block especially the new 500 which looks right up my street, but yes audio production. I'll probably have £1,000 tops to spend. Basically, a set up that will work well with a Mac and limited space!!!

But on the real Universal... You are about to take a big step into the music production realm. It's all what you want to make out of it as far as musically.
From just having an MPC500 and an iPod full of songs to sample from, to having a DAW with VST's and/or outboard gear/hardware.
The choice is yours.

Nothing wrong with telling homie to do his homework...its the truth. If imma dump $1000+ on something its my responsibility to make sure its what I want. Before I copped a 1k I knew everything I needed to know from these forums. And that was without ever asking a question. Not saying that theres anything wrong with asking but honestly a little research goes a long way.....

i look at the 500 as a good starter because if you ever decide to bump up to higher level mpc, you'll be so much more appreciative of all the new features available to you. Try to go used though on the 500, because chances are in less than a year you'll feel like moving onto a used 1k or something. plus you can find decent deals on used 500's with 128mb ram, and 2 gig CF cards on ebay. better than spending $600+tax on a 500, then $80 on ram, and $20 on the CF card. plus the 500 is a relatively new series so you usually don't have to worry about getting a junky beat up unit.

but still alotta members on the forum would probably recommend just saving up for a used 1000 because of things like JJ OS and just the factor of a less cramped work flow.

as far as other equipment it all depends on what you're gonna be working on. if its purely sample based music, yea an ipod and a cable or a turntable and a stack of records will do. But if you want keys and synths, you'll either need a DAW with good sounds or you can buy a cheap hardware synth/keyboard to get started. Or you can also find tons of downloads of real synths, keys, drums, bass online. the sampler is as creative as you are so just start finding and picking up sounds you think you can use now.

Yes true, but see the way you said it was a lot more respectable. It has nothing to do with a "newb" sticking up for another, it has to do with being human. If some of you are going to act so immature that you actually think a post count on the internet matters any. You need to reevaluate where you stand in this world, because I know no one started out with all the knowledge you need to get started in music, EVERYONE asks questions. So grow the **** up and stop acting like some kids on a pokemon forum.
