Question about sounds: I just picked up a 2000XL, first MPC ever, and I'm totally lost. I will keep this on topic, but there are ZERO sounds inside this thing. I'm not sure if they came like that from the factory or not, but there's not even any basic drum sounds, which I thought came on other MPs. Is there a way I can get stock sounds from, lets say a 1000 or 2500, on here just to get started quickly?

Well I don't know what peripheral gears you got available. I'd say though that if you got a CD inside your MPC then the best way would be to burn the sounds onto CD's and load 'em from there. It is just a matter of getting the sounds copied from a 1000's CF onto a harddrive, then just burn it out. If you got an USB connection (which I doubt) then you can just hook up your MPC to your puter and transfer over the sounds to it. It all comes down to what memory you got. I'm still pretty new at this MPC bizniz, but I hope this helped you out a bit.

Some advice for you.

It's disrespectful to hijack other peoples threads as you've done here. You have already started your own thread in this forum so be patient and advice will come, bump that thread if you have to.

THKS FOR YR ANSWER !

QUESTION NO.2
HOW CAN I LOAD THIS SOUNDS ON THE COMPACT FALSH CARD??

QUESTION NO.3
WHEN I JUST GOT THE MPC I TRIED TO CONNECT IT TO MY PORTABLE COMPUTER VIA USB (A TOSHIBA PERSONAL COMPUTER..
ITS DETAILS ARE FOLLOWING : GENUINE INTEL(R) CPU, T2050 @1.60GHz, 1.60GHz, 504 MB of RAM) THE COMPUTER DID NOT RECOGNIZE THE MPC...JUST LIKE I DID NOT CONNECT IT. COULD IT BE POSSIBLE THAT MY COMPUTER IS SO OLD AND POWERLESS...THAT IT CANNOT SUPPORT SUCH A COMPLEX MACHINE LIKE THE MPC??
IF SO....WHAT TYPE OF PERSONAL COMPUTER WOULD YOU ADVISE TO ME?

THKS AGAIN FOR YR HELP.. AND SORRY FOR MY IGNORANCE :)

No, even an older pc like that should recognize the MPC 2500. Honestly, that older computer is actually more advanced than your MPC. :D But MPC's are built for one purpose, and do it well even within their limitations. Perhaps you didn't go to the USB screen. It's the Mode + Pad 2, but I have JJOSXL (an alternative to the official Akai OS), but it's probably the same. From there press USB and then Mount, your CF card should show up in My Computer. (Make sure your sounds are 16-bit 44100khz WAVS)

Definitely read the manual, maybe even get the PDF from Akai's site if you haven't yet. Maybe keep it open on your computer as you learn the MPC. There's a 2500 tutorial book for sale on this site (sidebar ads), it's probably the best money you could spend, and includes some sounds to follow along with the examples. It could save weeks if not months for you, depending on how confusing you're finding getting started.

Good luck, and don't worry about being new to it, it's always a struggle at the start. You could ease up on that caps lock though. :D

The producers you named use drum breaks. There are lots of soul, funk, rock, and jazz songs from the 60's and 70's that contain open drum beats that you can sample and chop up in the MPC.

Might help if you start reading as it's obviously you don't read your post's ( spelling and caps ), the manual would be a great place to start reading that way we don't need to look at your CAPS LOCK typing.
Sorry to sound harsh but these are basic knowledge questions that you can find anywhere.

You guys can't forget that it's a "sampler" also.
That is a very prominent part of the thing you bought. You can sample, it's ok and won't hurt your gear.
Loading from others sources is cool too, but lest you forget it's main purpose?!?

Many thks for yr explanation, I think I'll go on reading the manual..after that i'll start practicing and I'll let you know if i managed to connect evrything..even my turntable...as I'd like to sample from vinyls.
As you can see now i don't use caps lock any more.. :)

dont forget, the my music section of the forum is a great place to post up your music... if you need a hint or two or maybe some suggestions by another producer's ear it's extremely valuable. Not only can they suggest hints or ideas.. but they might even make suggestions that help you design music that sounds great to other people's ear as well as your own.

stay up!

thks, really.
I am proceeding very slowly..cause it's been a very hard period.
Frankly speaking..it is not so much funny to read the manual..I'm italian and it is written in english but no matter..i'll continue my struggle..slowly.
