NEWBIE question

Using OS version 2.10...

I have been working on the MPC1K for about 3 hours now, not too bad. I bought the MPC1000E-Book and have been juggling back and forth between that and the owners manual...

the first thing I noticed is that when I disable autoload samples from internal memory my headphone out stops working. Even after I load all sequences upon boot up.

second thing is I figured out how to chop/slice a sample that I imported from the PC via usb cable, but when I try to play 2 pads at a time the sample stops playing. Is this normal? Is there some setting I need to adjust?

thanks for the tip... but now when I attach the usb cable the MPC HD does not register anymore...

Do I have to reboot the pc everytime I reconnect the MPC to the PC?

I finally got it to register after enabling the USB mode on the MPC before plugging in the usb to the PC... and you also have to wake up the hard drive before plugging in the usb to the PC.

what ends up happening is the CF drive shows up instead.

this leads me to believe that the HD does not become active upon boot. is this a default setting that can be changed or am I stuck with having to activate the HD every time I turn on the MPC?

I have not seen this explained in either MPC1000-Ebook or the MPC1000 Owners Manual.

as far as i know, the HDD is active after you turn the unit on.

perhaps it is slow on spinning up... Would adding the 128mb of memory help the boot up process?

in any case, I know that if I activate the HD by selecting it, I can get it to register or the PC to recognize the MPCHD...

when you mount over usb it takes a good minute to mount, so thats not out of the ordinary. just have patience, its the old version of usb, and its slow.

A MINUTE??? crazy talk. mine takes a couple of seconds.

yes, a couple of seconds once the hard drive is awake. Until I select HD on load and then USB, I can quickly mount the HD to the PC.

Next the the terminally serious faulty drive formatting issues, that USB implementation was among the weakest aspects of Akai's software. Just pathetic.

yeah remember how we had to yank out the usb cable every time we wanted to leave the usb screen?

made that function essentially useless

Are you loading the samples as well? Or just the sequences?

when i go to mount the HDD over USB im waiting a good while. am i awaiting a spinup?

my bad... I was just loading songs and seq's... not the samples... is there a load everything in the internal memory setting? I guess it doesn't matter if one is building a sample library from scratch...

Man I am having fun learning this machine... I plan on upgrading to a 2500 or 4000 in a couple of years, if not next year.
